Details

This Knowledge Base Article (KBA) provides information on using the NAV Object Comparer, a free third-party tool for comparing object changes between two or more Microsoft Dynamics NAV databases. Please note that the NAV Object Comparer is not developed or supported by Sparkrock and should be used at your own risk.

Resolution

To compare object changes using the NAV Object Comparer tool, follow these steps:

  1. Download and install the NAV Object Comparer tool from the official website or trusted sources.
  2. Launch the NAV Object Comparer tool.
  3. Add databases by providing an optional alias for easier recognition.
  4. Check all the databases you want to compare.
  5. Set the desired filters to narrow down the comparison:
    1. Type: Check or uncheck object types to include or exclude from the comparison.
    2. ID, Name, Version List: Use asterisk "" as a wildcard, similar to the "%" operator in SQL's LIKE clause. For example, "ID filter: 500" will include objects with ID starting with "500".
    3. Modified and Compiled: Choose between three states: Checked, Unchecked, or Indeterminate. Indeterminate state means objects will not be filtered based on this field.
  6. Choose the primary database from the dropdown list.
  7. Click the "Compare" button to initiate the comparison process.
  8. View the detailed comparison results in the bottom section of the window. Click on any object to see its specific changes.
