Overview
Sparkrock is transitioning Sparkrock 365 to a new way of deploying within Microsoft's Dynamics 365 Business Central's ecosystem. This strategic move enhances update delivery, strengthens alignment with Microsoft's roadmap, and enables access to new innovations such as Microsoft Copilot.
While Sparkrock 365's functionality remains unchanged, there are several important updates regarding access, visuals, reporting, and administration.
What’s Changing?
1. New Access URL
Old URL:
sparkrock365.bc.dynamics.com
New URL:
businesscentral.dynamics.com
Action: Update your bookmarks and intranet links.
Note: Old URLs will redirect temporarily, but we recommend switching to the new one as soon as possible.
2. Visual Differences
Users will notice some interface changes:
The top bar will now show: Dynamics 365 Business Central instead of Sparkrock 365.
The splash screen and browser icon will reflect Microsoft’s branding.
3. Help and Learning Resources
Some help and support pages within Sparkrock 365 will redirect to Microsoft’s Business Central resources.
To ensure you receive Sparkrock-specific support:
Reporting (Power BI)
Some PowerBI users may need to make a small settings change to continue connecting to the new Microsoft platform.
If the report continues to work correctly, there are likely no changes that need to be made. However, if there are issues, or a customer wants to check ahead of time, here’s where to go:
Power BI Reports Created by Sparkrock Consultants
In Power BI, go to Home > Transform Data > Parameters folder > Source Name
✅ If it shows Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContents(null, null, null) (null 3 times), no changes needed.
❌ If it shows Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContents(null, null, null, null) (null 4 times), change it to Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContentsWithOptions(null, null, null, [UseReadOnlyReplica = null])
Other Reports
If you have created their own report, or if there is no SourceName parameter in Queries, a similar change needs to be made for each table added to the report:
- In Power BI, go to Transform Data on the ribbon, and select Transform Data
- For each table in the Queries list on the left, select Advanced Editor on the ribbon.
- There will be a line that begins with Source = Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContentsWithOptions…
- ✅ If it shows Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContents(null, null, null) (null 3 times), no changes needed.
- ❌ If it shows Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContents(null, null, null, null) (null 4 times), change it to Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContentsWithOptions(null, null, null, [UseReadOnlyReplica = null])
Admin Actions Required
1. Grant Consent
Microsoft Admins must visit: adminconsent.sparkrock.com
This allows Sparkrock to continue deploying weekly maintenance updates.
2. Manage Microsoft Updates
Major (for example v26 to v27) and Minor (for example v26.2 to v26.3) updates will now be handled by Microsoft, as part of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Release Cadence. Customers will have the ability to schedule and delay major and minor releases.
Maintenance updates will continue to be pushed to customers, as long as they have granted Admin Consent at adminconsent.sparkrock.com.
