  • Summary: Using Configuration package to export and import the data into Sparkrock 2016

Details

This document will provide steps to import and validate data using Configuration Packages.

Resolution

The steps below explain how to create new configuration package for “Employee Table”. The process will detail steps to create a new package, export the data, make changes, import the data back into configuration package, and finally apply the data.

  1. Search for Configuration packages in the Nav main screen
  2.  Create New by clicking on the “New” option
  3.  Create CODE and “Package Name” before selecting the table fields
  4.  Click on the drop-down option in the Table ID field, change the filters to “Name” and start searching for employee (Search the name of the table example: Employee, HR position ledger entries, Time entry etc.)
  5. Once selected the employee 5200 table, click on the dropdown beside the table and choose filters option to choose the field ID that you are looking to filter (you can filter more than one employee using | example, if there are two employees E001 and E002 information you are looking to change add E001|E002 in the filter field)
  6. Click on excel dropdown and select Export First
  7. Once the export file is ready, open the sheet, make changes to the field that you are planning to change, save the sheet and go back to the configuration package and use “Import from Excel”
  8. Once the import is completed, click on “Functions” and “Apply Data”. By applying the data, changes that imported will be automatically updated in the related tables.

Impact / Risks

  • By using configuration packages we will be able to change only the particular filed in the related table but if the table is linked with the other tables, the information will not get updated on the other tables. We suggest you utilize this process only when instructed to do it by Sparkrock Support team.
  • Re-utilizing the same excel file to import data could import data that is not up to date. Ensure fresh data is exported every time you run this process (Step 6).
